MTN Uganda has continued to support Kampala Clubs’ Chairman’s Cup by putting on the table a cash payment of Ushs 25 million, making it the 12th year that the telecom giant has sponsored the tournament.

The sponsorship that also included the provision of playing kits that comprise of t-shirts, caps and trophies were for the participant teams that competed in 9 sporting disciplines including squash, tennis, darts, chess, table tennis, mweso, scrabble, pool and swimming as they vie for the coveted Chairman’s Cup.

MTN Uganda Chief Marketing Officer Ernst Fonternel said“MTN recognises the role that sports plays in our customers’ lives. It is therefore in our interest to support such platforms that give participants an opportunity to play competitively and to explore their potential. Kampala club is a membership club of more than 600 members who are directly or indirectly our business customers; this is another way for us to engage with them”.

For the last 11 years MTN Uganda has been a partner in sponsoring the Kampala Club including the annual Chairman’s Cup event which kicked off with different categories of sports competition. The tournament run for a week and culminated with a prize giving ceremony at a dinner dance hosted on the club’s premises on Saturday 22nd March, 2014.

“Besides sponsoring the Chairman’s Cup, MTN Uganda has also provided internet connection to the Club and 2 years ago furnished the Club’s Business Centre/Lounge fully provisioned with laptops. Our association with this prestigious club dates way back since 2002 and we will continue to recognise and support Kampala Club,” Fonternel said.
